The incident happened on Fulton Avenue in Hempstead at 1:15 a.m. on Friday, April 22, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Police responded to the area behind 162 Fulton Ave. and found an unresponsive 58-year-old man, who was suffering from severe head and face lacerations after he was struck multiple times with an unknown object, authorities said.
NCPD said the victim's credit card, money, and personal belongings had been taken from his pocket during the incident.
After an investigation, police arrested 34-year-old Tyrell Guthrie, of Hempstead, on the corner of Jackson Street and Franklin Avenue, police reported.
Authorities recovered a knife and a glass pipe containing a white powdery substance believed to be crack cocaine from Guthrie, NCPD said.
Detectives located 60-year-old Dennis Ray on Jackson Avenue at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, and arrested him, NCPD said.
NCPD reported that Guthrie was charged with:
- First-degree assault
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
He was arraigned on Saturday, April 23, police said.
Police said Ray was charged with:
- First-degree robbery
- Two counts of second-degree robbery
- First-degree assault
His arraignment was scheduled for Sunday, May 8, NCPD said.
